18 Days into the New Year and what happened to your goals?

It has been less than 3 weeks into 2013 and many people have already forgotten about their New Year Eve resolutions.  The gyms have started clearing out, lunches are turning less healthy and people stopped talking about their “life changing” goals.

This occurs each year and each year friends ask me, Why?  Why can they not lose that 20 pounds?  Why do they not finish the book they wanted to read?  Why could they not keeping studying for that class they were taking?

For me, each year I sit down during the holiday season and plan out the following next two years.  First I review my 2012 goals, achievement, missed goals and opportunities and how each event made me feel. I then determine what I want to

  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn

achieve moving forward and set those goals accordingly.

I plan out the year, the quarter, and the individual months.  Does this planning make me more successful and therefore I achieve each and every goal?

No!

Why?

Because no matter how much I plan if I don’t know WHY I want to achieve the goals I set I will never accomplish them.

Knowing you WHY is the key to accomplishing your goals.  If you do not know why you eat too much, or why you don’t read the book or why you spend money you do no have you will never achieve your goals that are related to these issues.
